Real Set or Themed? How to Tell the Difference

When you look for “a film’s restaurant” you can run into two different things. Understanding the difference helps you choose the right experience — which is why every card on our site cites the source used to verify it.

Real set

It’s a venue where the film was actually shot, or that really existed and directly inspired the scene. Here the magic is authentic: you sit where the characters sat, or in the very place the director set out to portray. On our cards you recognise it by the Real set badge.

An important nuance: real location doesn’t always mean “filmed there”

Even among real sets there are differences: some venues appear literally on screen (like Bar Vitelli in Savoca), while others are the real place that inspired a scene rebuilt elsewhere — that’s the case of the Café de Paris on Via Veneto, the real heart of Rome’s “dolce vita”, while the street scenes were actually shot on a set at Cinecittà. We always explain this clearly in the dedicated article.

Cinema-themed

It’s a venue inspired by cinema — décor, posters, themed menu — but not a real location. These are fun, scenic spots, perfect for enthusiasts, but don’t expect to find a scene from the film there. We mark them with the ** Cinema-themed** badge.
