How to plan a weekend of cinema and good food in Italy

A practical guide to building a two-day itinerary following the films, among locations, restaurants and local specialities.

Suitcase and map for a weekend in Italy

A “cinematic” weekend is the perfect way to combine travel, cinema and food. Here is how to plan it in a few steps.

1. Choose the film (or the city)

Start from a title you love or a city you want to visit. In our Films section you’ll find the works with their linked venues; in the city pages (like Rome) you’ll find all the sets of a single destination.

2. Build the itinerary

Alternate locations and food stops. Use the map to see which venues are close to each other and avoid too much travelling.

3. Book in advance

The most famous restaurants fill up fast. Check the “booking” field on the venue pages and always confirm opening hours and closing days.

4. Tell real sets from themed venues

Not all venues are real sets: some are cinema-themed. Both are fun, but it’s nice to know what to expect.

5. Leave room for the unexpected

Film villages are small and surprising: treat yourself to an extra stroll, a coffee in the square, an improvised granita.

Ready to go? Browse the venues and create your itinerary.
