The Godfather, between Savoca and Forza d’Agrò

The “Sicilian” scenes of The Godfather were shot in the villages of the Messina area. At Bar Vitelli in Savoca, inside the 18th-century Palazzo Trimarchi, Michael Corleone asks for Apollonia’s hand: the venue — which took its name from the film itself — is still almost identical to 1971.

Montalbano’s cuisine, in the Ragusa area

The series Inspector Montalbano made Punta Secca, Scicli and Ragusa Ibla famous. The inspector is also a gourmet: on the seafront of Punta Secca you can enjoy the seafood dishes he loves so much, at the historic Enzo a Mare.

The magic of Cinema Paradiso

In Palazzo Adriano, the beautiful Piazza Umberto I is the heart of Cinema Paradiso, Tornatore’s 1990 Oscar winner: a village where time seems to have stopped, now home to a museum dedicated to the film.

Sicily in more recent cinema

The western coast is back in the spotlight thanks to The Odyssey by Christopher Nolan, filmed between Favignana and the Aegadian Islands, and the Sicilian scenes of In the Hand of Dante, filmed in Palermo. Proof that Sicily still fascinates Hollywood as much as it did in the 1970s.
