The Equalizer 3: Denzel Washington's café
Denzel Washington's café in The Equalizer 3 is Ristorante Savò in Atrani, on the Amalfi Coast — the venue tells the story on its own website.
In 2023 Antoine Fuqua closed out the Equalizer trilogy by taking Denzel Washington to the Amalfi Coast. The village where Robert McCall recovers after an ambush is called “Altamonte” and doesn’t exist: it’s Atrani, Italy’s smallest municipality by area, barely twenty hectares wedged between the mountain and the sea.
Atrani dressed as Altamonte
Filming covered Atrani and, elsewhere on the coast, Maiori and Minori. To turn the little square into the film’s fictional village, the production replaced the signs on almost every shop facing it, dressing a bakery, a grocery, a hardware store and a barber’s for the camera. The buildings, alleys and stairways, though, are exactly the real ones.
Ristorante Savò, the film’s “Aminah’s Cafe”
The venue that becomes the “Aminah’s Cafe” on screen — the café where McCall orders his tea every day, building the routine that ties him to the community — is Ristorante Savò, on Atrani’s square.
The venue tells the story itself, on a dedicated page on its website: Savò “was a location for the film The Equalizer 3 with Denzel Washington, represented in the film as a bar”. In reality it isn’t a café but a family restaurant, serving Amalfi Coast seafood, run by the Savo family in its third generation. Since the film came out, the owners say, visitors ask to sit at the table where the lead sat.
Getting to Atrani
Atrani is a few minutes’ walk from Amalfi, along the coast, and is served by the same SITA coast buses. There’s no parking in the centre, which is pedestrian and made almost entirely of steps and covered alleys. That’s precisely why it has stayed far quieter than neighbouring Amalfi and Positano — one of the reasons the production chose it.
In short
The Equalizer 3 put one of the smallest and least crowded villages on the coast on the map. Savò is the most direct way to find the set again, minus the fake signage. Discover more films and shows shot in Italy on our site.
