Succession: The Real Tuscany of Villa La Foce

The famous Italian arc of Succession — HBO’s Emmy-winning series about the Roy family — wasn’t shot on a built set: the estates hosting Caroline’s wedding, in the season 3 finale, are real historic villas in the heart of Tuscany.

Villa La Foce, the real home of the Roys

The Roy family stays at Villa La Foce, a 15th-century estate in the Val d’Orcia, between Florence and Rome. The property, and its now world-famous gardens, were redesigned in the 1920s by writer Iris Origo together with landscape architect Cecil Pinsent — a story as real as the cypress-lined hills surrounding it.

Villa Cetinale, the wedding

The season finale’s wedding, instead, is filmed at Villa Cetinale, a 17th-century baroque residence near Siena. Dopolavoro La Foce, the real restaurant

Unlike many productions, here you can actually eat in the same place: Dopolavoro La Foce, the estate’s restaurant, is open to the public at Strada della Vittoria 90, with a kitchen built around ingredients from the surrounding gardens and hills.
