In Spider-Man: Far From Home, Peter Parker begins his European trip right in Venice, where he faces the water monster among canals and bridges. The lagoon city, star of one of the film’s most spectacular sequences, is also a surprising food destination. Here is how to experience it.

The real and the rebuilt Venice

Between the Grand Canal, the little squares and the palaces on the water, Venice offers unique scenery. The crew genuinely filmed in the city in 2018, in spots like Campo Santa Maria Formosa, the Rialto area and St Mark’s Square. For scale and safety reasons, though, the spectacular action sequence with the water monster was rebuilt on a huge set at Leavesden Studios in England (the same studios used for Harry Potter), with the boat scene shot against green screen on a soundstage. A mix of real locations and special effects that still captures the real city’s atmosphere faithfully.

Where to eat like a Venetian

Forget the tourist restaurants: the real Venice is enjoyed in the bacari, the small taverns where you do the “giro di ombre”. Try:

• Cicchetti, Venetian snacks (creamed cod, sarde in saor, meatballs);
• A spritz or a small glass of wine (“ombra”);
• Bigoli in salsa and risotto di gò;
• For a “cinematic” coffee, the historic Caffè Florian in St Mark’s Square.
